The hutch should be left alone unless you want to paint some foam core backings.

Regarding the table (which is total score -- I'd love a farmhouse table!), it would have a bit more presence in the room if it were painted or stained. You know I love dark furniture, so that would be my preference! Have you done a search for farmhouse tables on Pinterest or Houzz? That might provide some great inspiration.
CamilleCamillehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11099412902613816953noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-748292897162377145.post-70735864780888009082011-07-29T10:21:32.541-04:002011-07-29T10:21:32.541-04:00Very pretty pieces! You could leave the tabletop the natural wood and paint the legs and sides a distressed cream to match your chairs for a farm house table kind of a look. And about the hutch I don't know its pretty as it is, but I think a distressed cream color would be pretty too. Good luck!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07842669791818066315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-748292897162377145.post-6921087477355156012011-07-29T10:19:42.985-04:002011-07-29T10:19:42.985-04:00Try adding color to the back of the shelves by cov...Try adding color to the back of the shelves by covering foam core board with fabric or paint. By using the foam core, you can experiment and see what you like without painting the wood. Also, it is easy to change when the mood strikes.
I also like the mix of wood pieces and painted pieces. I get a little upset when people paint every single piece of wooden furniture they get their hands on.Sylviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02228854396895327316noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-748292897162377145.post-45369614315034369882011-07-29T08:49:50.151-04:002011-07-29T08:49:50.151-04:00Oh, my gosh! Personally, I would go with a neutral color scheme and just bring in color with your art and accessories. I have a pine table and cupboard in my dining room, but I have thought to paint the back of the shelves. Haven't decided on a color, though. Good luck with your decisions and I hope you get lots of feedback.Jane@Cottage at the Crossroadshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07608535211366946487noreply@blogger.com
